We have imaged about 150 computers using the new software; some of them new Intel iMacs out of the box, and some of them last year's PPC eMacs.
It has been a great tool!
It is changing the way we think about imaging software and managing computers, that is for sure.
We are at the point now, where we can do our entire imaging process from home now -
- the machines NetBoot
- Casper detects the MAC address
- Casper installs the appropriate software
- Casper assigns the appropriate printer(s)
Bingo Bango!
We even used Casper to set a (temporary) policy so that each computer powers up at 7:00 AM, so even if somebody turns a machine off at the end of the day, it is still available to us for configuration the next morning.
Don't have to physically walk to the boxes to NetBoot, select configurations, and then walk back again to give the names and IPs and configure printers -
It's all done remotely, and automatically. All the configurations are stored on the central server.
If you are a self-servicing site, it will even automatically log into Apple's database and fill in the PO #, PO date, warranty expiration date, purchase price, and AppleCare info!
