Disabling Bonjour

If you don't use Bonjour for anything, why not turn it off? It will cut down on network chatter, and probably make things easier to understand for your users. It is arguably more secure. Here is how:

There is a plist file that simply needs to be removed:

  • /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist


You could execute a script command to remove it for you as well (and you could use ARD to do it to all your machines):

  • #!/bin/sh
  • rm -rf /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
