  • Receive notifications of breaking news
  • Videos and Photos
  • AP source, "branding" free content
  • Support for "local" news (state-level at least)
  • You can download articles and star your favorites, as well as share articles with others
  • The interface is a bit strange

NPR

  • Nicely designed app
  • Can browse news by category, as well as look at station lists, program schedules, and playlists
  • Lots of images, video, and audio
  • You can share articles

USA Today

  • Nice looking news app
  • You can share articles

New York Times Editor's Choice

  • Some categorization of news (but more limited compared to AP)
  • Uses a more traditional newspaper format, instead of a list of articles, which may look nicer, but makes article discovery slower
  • You can email an article
60 Minutes
  • All past episodes of 60 Minutes available for viewing

  • Nice app for viewing ABC News

  • CNN content, optimized for iPad
